Featured: Sign the Petition for an Open App Store on iPhone [Video]

Contrary to the speculations of many around the blogosphere, Apple will not release the iPhone on June 11, as evidenced by Apple’s statement yesterday announcing the Leopard OS delay.

“iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned,” said the press release (emphasis mine).

When CNET reported that a Cingular customer service rep. said iPhone would be released June 11, I called 25 Cingular stores to see what they had to say, and none knew of the June 11 release date.

Unless June 11 is “late June,” it seems my suspicions have been confirmed: the iPhone will not come out June 11.
