YouTube on iPhone

The iPhone will feature a YouTube application for streaming videos wirelessly over WiFi or EDGE networks, Apple confirmed today in a press release.

Speculation that a YouTube app might be included on the iPhone began when the popular video sharing site started to convert its videos to the iPhone-friendly H.264 codec earlier this month.

I suggested in February that Apple “build a feature into iPhone to allow users to share YouTube videos via their phones.” I’m glad to hear that this will now be the case.

You can see the YouTube software in action on the Apple site.

As the iPhone launch date approaches, Apple continues to announce features and upgrades, probably hoping to build enough hype to get people pitching tents outside AT&T and Apple stores on the 29th.
